Hospitality/Welcoming

One of the most important calls that Christ gives His church is to be welcoming to people. We are His ambassadors.
2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV) - "We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us."
Welcome Center
Are you friendly and warm? The goal of the welcome center is to help guests feel the love of God by welcoming them with friendly gracious service. Training provided.
Ushers
Greet each person at the Sanctuary door with a smile and a bulletin, offering any assistance needed. Ushers also help guests locate Sunday School rooms, nursery and restrooms.
Greeters
Welcome people at the entry doors as they arrive to church. This is on a rotating basis.
Safety Team
Volunteers are the eyes and ears of the church. These men and women walk the perimeter of the church welcoming guests and seeking to provide a safe environment for all.
Event Planning
This is for those who enjoy preparing, setting up and cleaning up for receptions.
Community Outreach

After School Kids Club
Volunteers serve in a local area school from around 3:00 to 4:30 pm one day per week building relationships with children (1st - 5th grades) and simply being present to help keep the kids focused on the program. Additional opportunities are available, but not required, such as signing children in, listening to memory verses, leading songs, explaining a Bible verse, leading simple games, or teaching a provided Bible lesson.
Food Pantry Stocker
This is for the person who enjoys stocking and organizing groceries. This is needed twice a month on Mondays.

Pantry hours are the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. View flier (PDF).
Migrant Camps
COTC goes six Tuesdays in the summer starting the Tuesday after the 4th of July. If you are looking for missions work, you don’t need to go any farther than this! Help us feed, clothe, and share the Word of God.
True Vine Garden Worker
Do you have a green thumb? True Vine Gardens is looking for individuals who enjoy getting their hands dirty, pulling weeds, as well as harvesting. This is a commitment during the spring to fall growing season.

Nursery Caregiver
Support the purposes of the nursery ministry by providing care to our nursery-aged children. Includes reading Bible stories, playing with children, etc. Sunday School Lead Teacher Oversee the teaching of a classroom. Encourage spiritual growth through relationships and learning activities. Sunday School Teacher’s Assistant Provide essential support to the Lead Teacher by helping with classroom activities and engaging with children during the lesson. Sunday School Teacher Substitute Oversee the teaching of a classroom on a substitute basis. Encourage spiritual growth through relationships and learning activities. Kids Check-In Volunteer Welcome families and register children using our automated attendance software. |
Youth
Sunday School Lead Teacher
Oversee the teaching of a teen Sunday school class. Encourage spiritual growth through relationships and learning activities. Sunday School Teacher’s Assistant Provide essential support to the Lead Teacher by helping with classroom activities and engaging with students during the lesson. Sunday School Teacher Substitute Oversee the teaching of a classroom on a substitute basis. Encourage spiritual growth through relationships and learning activities. Youth Ministry Volunteer Support Youth Ministry through attending Crossover Youth Group (Sunday nights) and special events in order to build Christ-centered relationships with teens. |

Small Group Facilitators
The most important thing you need is a desire to serve the members of your group and to grow in your own personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Small groups meet weekly or biweekly. COTC has many curriculum options available. Training and support are provided.

This ministry is for members of the armed forces, college students, homebound and ill members and friends of Church of the Cross. Join this group to bring a moment of care and concern to our church family away from home.
Church Office Assistant
The primary functions of our office assistants are answering phones, assisting the secretary, helping with the weekly bulletin, and putting together church-wide mailings. Typically volunteers serve a half day shift (9:00 am to 12:30 pm or 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm).
Communion Preparers
These volunteers help prepare and clean up communion table for Communion Sundays, celebration services and holiday services.
Communion Servers
These volunteers assist in serving the elements, the bread and the juice, to the congregation. Communion is offered the first Sunday of each month, and at select holidays throughout the month.
Hospital and Home Visits
Supplement staff visitation to our hospitalized and homebound members.
Library Volunteers
Do you have a couple of hours a week? Do you enjoy being around books? Becoming a library volunteer might be for you. All you need is a love for books!

We meet once a month on Saturday. We enjoy working with our hands and each other. Our purpose is to help the homeless be warm. Come and check us out!
