Music Ministry

Bell Choir
All of the music ministries at Church of the Cross focus on enhancing our Worship Services and assisting each member in connecting more fully with the love and power of our Heavenly Father. Our musical ensembles are not focused on bringing glory to ourselves. We simply share our gift of music with our congregation as we offer our musical gifts to Him.

Contemporary Worship Team

Our contemporary worship service was originally added in November of 2008. It is a very informal time of worship. The upbeat and modern music is led by the Praise Band. The Bible-based message is shared in segments with worship songs / special music selections / drama / video clips / etc. dispersed within the message. Although the service is currently not meeting (see below), in the past it has usually lasted around one hour and includes a celebration of communion once a month.

Brass Ensemble

Sundays 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
The Church of the Cross Brass Ensemble is comprised of musicians from Church of the Cross and other churches in the Toledo area. They bring praise to God by play challenging worshipful music. They are part of the worship service monthly. Because of the personnel in this group it has become its own outreach. We currently have 7 brass players who make weekly rehearsals from September through June. It is planned that this ensemble be made available to other churches in the area to spread the majesty of God's music. Those interested in playing in the Church of the Cross Brass Ensemble should be able to play at least at a moderate high school level. Rich Dubler is the director of the Brass Ensemble.

Special Music Opportunities

(Selected Sundays throughout the year)
We have many people at Church of the Cross who have a tremendous gift and love of music. We have a consistent need for special music, especially for the 8:15 service throughout the year. This need is cared for by the people of the church in the form of vocal solos, various ensembles, instrumental solos or duets or in almost any way that will bring glory to God in some form of artistic way. Both young and old have shared their gift of music to God.

Church of the Cross Choir

Wednesdays 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
The Choir at Church of the Cross is made-up of people ranging from mid-high school through "seasoned adult." The choir shares His music most every week at the 10:45 service as well as selected 8:15 services. The season runs from September through the first week in June. They play an integral part in many special services including Missions Sunday, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, as well as others. The choir presents two cantatas annually. Our Advent Cantata is very popular helping to focus our hearts on "the reason for the season." The second cantata is either centered around Holy Week or praising God in uplifting song. Being able to carry a tune is more important than reading music in our choir. Rich Dubler is the director of the Church of the Cross Choir.

Bell Choir

Tuesdays 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
The Hallelujah Ringers is our bell choir. They are active September through May, ringing at the 10:45 Service about once a month. They are also active in traveling to other churches to bring glory to God through their music.

Women's Ensemble

1st & 2nd Wed. 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Our small ensembles are separate from our choir. They allow people the flexibility to use their talents without committing as much time to rehearsal. The Men's and Women's Ensembles are more focused in that they prepare one piece of music a month. The prepared song is generally offered at the 8:15 service however, there are times the ensembles will sing at both the 8:15 and 10:45. Rehearsals are only ½ hour in length. The ability to read music is helpful but not necessary to join our Men's and Women's Ensembles. Rich Dubler is the director of the Men's and Women's ensembles.
