Missions / Outreach

MISSION STATEMENT
The mandate of the Missions Team of Church of the Cross United Methodist is to proclaim the Good
News of the Gospel as revealed in John 3:16, and as directed by the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20.
This mandate is to be carried out by:
- A personal commitment to evangelism,
- An intentional effort to educate, inspire and enlist members of the Church of the Cross family to become involved in the missions mandate, and by
- Providing resources and support to other individuals, organizations, and church groups locally, nationally, and internationally who share this mission.
Some of the many missions supported by Church of the Cross through Faith Promise (extra mile) giving and active participation include:

LOCAL MISSIONS
Many Might Know Ministries - This ministry was formed when it was brought to the attention of a few
members at Church of the Cross the plight of the local migrant farm workers and their families. It is a
weekly outreach during the summer to one of the many migrant camps in NW Ohio.
Good Samaritan Outreach - Located just outside downtown Toledo, this center cares for the
homeless and needy in Toledo.

Children's Outreach Ministries - This is a non-denominational, non-profit ministry whose purpose is
to reach un-churched children in the greater Toledo and surrounding area with the
Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Athletes in Action - This is the sports division of Campus Crusade for Christ. AIA was founded in
1966 by David Hannan, who desired to build on society's great love of sports and utilize the
platform given to the athlete to reach the world for Jesus Christ.
Toledo Area Youth for Christ - Mobilizes the body of Christ in the greater Toledo area to bring
the message of Jesus Christ to the youth in our schools.
Pregnancy Center of Greater Toledo - This Christian ministry has served thousands in the Toledo
area since 1984. The Pregnancy Center of Greater Toledo is a community outreach to express
the compassion of Christ through support and education in pregnancy related issues.
Water for Ishmael - Exists to help Muslims and Christians connect to each other and ultimately
connect to God. The American School for Women and Children, under the umbrella of Water
for Ishmael, exists to be an authentic representation of Christ offering his hope and compassion
to immigrant women and children through education and relationships.
Journey of the Heart - (JOTH) was created to meet the needs of struggling women in communities
throughout the United States and around the world. Journey of the Heart's mission is to provide
a way for women whose hearts are wounded and broken to discover HOPE and HEALING
in their everyday lives.
NATIONAL MISSIONS
Bridges International - Bridges International is a non-profit, Christian organization that exists to
help serve and mobilize international student population in the USA and abroad. Bridges
International is home to approximately 650,000 international students and
visiting scholars.
Mission Society - The Mission Society's passion is to make Jesus Christ known to people who
had little or no access to the gospel. Mission Society presently has 156 missionaries
assigned to 29 countries on five continents.
Mission Bakersfield - By the grace of God, it is our purpose to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ
in the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley to bring about transformation in the lives of
people through the launching and igniting of reproducing churches, to the
glory of God.
Weekend of Champions (Bill Glass Prison Ministry) - This ministry is geared toward the men and
women in the prison system uses the four spiritual laws, as a basis to share how they too
can have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS
Care for India Project - This ministry seeks to provide support and training for indigenous pastors
working in Orissa, India. This ministry also provides funding to care for orphans living at the
center (The Dugudi Center) in which the pastors are trained.
OM International - Working in every continent and on every ocean (via two ocean-going ships)
Operation Mobilisation seeks to demonstrate and proclaim the love of God.
As missionaries with Operation Mobilization, we work in partnership with interested individuals and churches.
